As Summer 2010 comes to a close we want to thank all of you, our old and new friends, for your continued support. We have enjoyed meeting with you, sharing our wines, BBQ's, and family stories. The food was fantastic thanks to our great BBQ crew: Travis, Jacob, Mike J., Jack, Dave, Tom 2, Marcial, Lynn, and Louis Silveira and his boys...loved all the tri-tip, ribs, pulled pork, veggies from the garden and of course, Tom's famous beans! Steve our "pizza man" (and real life photographer) was amazing with his talents on the fire brick oven - made our "pizza by the bottle" nights extra fun! Couldn't do it without all the great inside help, too. Thank you to Shauna, our party-girl co-ordinator, Heather, Barry, Cait, Em, Bevalina in the Tasting Room, Rick & Sue and Linda in the kitchen with all those pots and pans, Linda, our hostess that greeted you with a smile each week, and an extra special appreciation to Claudia for all her organization in getting the neighborhood here and in the spirit of having their weekly fun at RIO SECO.

Our bands were so entertaining, something for everyone whether it was a little jazz, country, or rock 'n roll - they kept us warmed up and ready for some dancin' in spite of our cooler than normal summer and typical East side Paso Robles windy nights. Thank you, ZZAH, Impromptu, Up in the Air, Side Roads, FUNK:30, Tennessee Jimmy, Hanson-Bishop Band, and Dean Coy & Friends.Thanks for the memories - can't wait until we do it all over again, Summer 2011!

THANK YOU everyone for making our Friday Fun Nights and 4th of July celebrations extra special! We can't tell you enough how much you are all appreciated. Everyone enjoyed the friends and fantastic foods at our annual All-American Pot Luck - A great day and an old fashioned way to celebrate our country's birthday! We all danced the night away to the sounds of IMPROMPTU last Friday and even though the temps were chilly and the wind blowing, (and no fireworks...) the fun and funky band UP IN THE AIR kept us hot, hot, hot on the 4th!

Happy New Year from your friends at RIO SECO. Hoping 2010 will be full of good health and prosperity for all! In these tough times we appreciate your support ever so much! THANK YOU !

HAPPY 10 year Anniversary to RIO SECO!

Yes, it's true. We opened our Tasting Room doors ten years ago this month on Superbowl Sunday, Y2K! Wow! So many changes in our Paso Robles wine community - For those who don't know, we were the 22nd winery to open here in the Paso Robles area. There are close to 220 now! Our history here is interesting - we bought this ranch as a family "fixer-upper" in 1996 after a drug bust! The former residents were making big bucks selling "another" product, not wine! No vines were planted, only crashed cars, tires, chicken coops, and a burned down house leftover from the car crash movie "The Junkman", sequel to the original "Gone in 60 Seconds," that was filmed here in the mid-80"s! OMG! What a clean-up! Planting 22,000 vines the first year (the first 3,000 we started from cuttings in our backyard), was an ambitious project. Along came 10 acres of olive trees, the barrel room, the pizza oven, the guesthouse...Thankfully, Tom retired from baseball so he could be a part of this adventure! Thanks to family and loyal friends we are glad to still be here, still be making good wines, and most importantly, still having fun! Watch for lots of 10-year Anniversary specials in the Tasting Room starting this month - and keep posted for Tom's 10-year Anniversary Bash later this Spring!

~ Harvest Season

While people are still checking with us to see if we have a gathering on Friday night, for the most part, the entire month of September keeps everybody busy with the sounds of the tractor coming onto the crush pad with this years harvest and the sweet smells of fermenting grapes! Exciting news for us - Please help us welcome this year to our RIO SECO harvest family, a guest intern from Macedonia, Bilijana Petrova. BeeBee, as Tom has nicknamed her, is twenty-five and is currently a teaching assistant at the University Faculty of Agriculture in Skopje where she is working on her Master's Thesis in microbiology and wine yeasts. She hopes to attend U.C.Davis next year and become a winemaker someday back in her own country. Also the head honcho on the harvest crew is Lynn Hayes, a retired engineer from Northrup...he is great with ideas and on the forklift! Assisting him is Carey Vasquez, now the newest "cellar rat" along with our daughter, Cait, who has returned home from working eight months at a winery in New Zealand where she ran the tasting room, events, and worked crush. Along with Marcial, we have an excellent team that looks forward to another fantastic harvest season!

A crowd of a hundred people ate a hearty BBQ and danced to the cool sounds of ZZah one of Paso's favorite bands June 26. Rio Seco Winery is located in Paso Robles off 46 east.
