HAPPY 10 year Anniversary to RIO SECO!
Yes, it's true. We opened our Tasting Room doors ten years ago this month on Superbowl Sunday, Y2K! Wow! So many changes in our Paso Robles wine community - For those who don't know, we were the 22nd winery to open here in the Paso Robles area. There are close to 220 now! Our history here is interesting - we bought this ranch as a family "fixer-upper" in 1996 after a drug bust! The former residents were making big bucks selling "another" product, not wine! No vines were planted, only crashed cars, tires, chicken coops, and a burned down house leftover from the car crash movie "The Junkman", sequel to the original "Gone in 60 Seconds," that was filmed here in the mid-80"s! OMG! What a clean-up! Planting 22,000 vines the first year (the first 3,000 we started from cuttings in our backyard), was an ambitious project. Along came 10 acres of olive trees, the barrel room, the pizza oven, the guesthouse...Thankfully, Tom retired from baseball so he could be a part of this adventure! Thanks to family and loyal friends we are glad to still be here, still be making good wines, and most importantly, still having fun! Watch for lots of 10-year Anniversary specials in the Tasting Room starting this month - and keep posted for Tom's 10-year Anniversary Bash later this Spring!
